WHAT IS WOMP?
Womp 3D is a browser-based 3D design platform that lets you easily create, customize, and share 3D models without needing complex software or prior 3D experience.

THE DESIGNATHON
Our challenge was to simplify Womp’s interface and experience so newcomers could start creating in minutes, without losing the depth that experienced users value. I worked with designers to imagine how Womp could move beyond individual creation into shared, interactive 3D experiences.

Design Process
BACKGROUND

Engaging, but Incomplete:
The Womp Onboarding Experience
Many users, especially students, enjoy the game-like tutorial but hit a roadblock afterwards leading to a significant drop-off rate.

RESEARCH: WHAT PEOPLE WERE SAYING
We talked with the creative director and Reddit reviews highlights that students need more than just tutorials; they need guidance, context, and a roadmap for their learning journey.

“That’s the biggest problem we’re facing right now”
~ Sarah: Creative Director @ Womp

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Users can play games and explore on Womp, but there's no in-between for learning.

How might we create an “in-between” learning experience that guides users from tutorial to creation, helping them apply their skills with confidence?

USER JOURNEY MAP

We mapped the journey of Womp users across three levels, Beginner, Intermediate, and Professional.
Beginners enjoyed the mini game tutorial but often dropped off due to a lack of direction.
Intermediate users started projects but struggled with unfamiliar terms and next steps.
Professionals came with clear ideas but found it hard to achieve a polished, portfolio-ready look.
This revealed a gap in learning support, and by creating an “in-between” experience, we could guide users from tutorial to creation, helping them build confidence and stay engaged.

SOLUTION

We designed an “in-between” experience that bridges the gap between Womp’s tutorial and full creative freedom.
It introduces guided creation modes with step-by-step prompts, contextual tips, and simplified tool sets that adapt as users progress. Beginners gain direction, intermediates build confidence, and professionals can jump straight to advanced features, keeping all skill levels engaged and moving toward their goals.

FIGMA PROTOTYPE

The concept resonated strongly with the judges, and we were awarded first place at the Designation.
